  • Karen Yokota Love

Pastor Karen Yokota Love is in her fifth year of ministry and served at three other churches before arriving as our lead pastor at Mason United Methodist Church. She served at Milton, Whitney Memorial, and at Puyallup United Methodist Churches. Pastor Karen first sensed a call to ministry while in high school, but it wasn’t until a decade later that she responded. Immediately after graduating from UC Berkeley, she worked in the world of journalism and marketing. Upon answering her call to ministry, Pastor Karen moved to Claremont, CA to pursue seminary at Claremont School of Theology. While there, her call to pastoral ministry was affirmed and shaped by her experiences serving at Fullerton First UMC and community organizing at Claremont Presbyterian Church. She also worked with a Hispanic congregation, Taiwanese congregation, and a Korean congregation. Two vital ministries that spoke to her while at Claremont was working with people in recovery ministries and working with the immigrant population. She also enjoys working with children and youth. She found a passion and love for youth while working at Puyallup and misses them dearly. She looks forward to seeing what opportunities are awaiting here at Mason.  Being immersed in the local community played a big part in Pastor Karen’s ministry at her previous appointments.  In addition to leading worship, she has especially enjoyed forging relationships between the church and the community and hearing stories about how God has transformed people’s lives. She’s currently serving as a Board Member at the Tacoma Community House. She’s also active as a member on the Pacific Northwest’s Conference-Affiliated Commission on Race and Religion.  Pastor Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a minor in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Divinity degree from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California. When not at church, Karen enjoys spending time with her husband Jesse Love and their friends and family. She enjoys any sort of DIY project, going to the movies, reading, hiking, and attending a good yoga class. Both Pastor Karen and Jesse are excited to be here at Mason and serve in this this community!

Collin hails from Michigan but comes to us by way of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he recently graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Composition. He studied with notable composers David Conte and Mason Bates. His versatility as a composer, conductor, pianist, and singer has earned him numerous accolades. His compositions have been described by librettist Nicholas Giardini as "beautiful, rapturous and unabashedly romantic, without any of the failings that so often accompany these qualities." His conducting has been praised by Dr. Jacques Desjardins as demonstrating "poise, command, and charisma, warranting engaging renditions of a wide variety of repertoire under his direction." As a performer, Collin has been hired to perform for numerous churches, community theater programs, senior residence homes, high school music programs, solo and ensemble festivals, district and state choral festivals, weddings, funerals, banquets, and parties.
