Rev. Karen is in her sixth year of local church ministry and served at three other churches before arriving as our lead pastor at Mason United Methodist Church. Rev. Karen's call to pastoral ministry was affirmed and shaped by her experiences serving at a variety of Methodists churches including cross-cultural assignments with a Hispanic congregation, Taiwanese congregation, and a Korean congregation. Two vital ministries that are essential to Rev. Karen's call are working with recovery ministries and with the immigrant and refugee population. She also enjoys building new places and new ministries for new people. In addition to her love for leading worship, Rev. Karen enjoys forging relationships between the church and the local community. She is very community-oriented, and loves witnessing how God transforms people’s lives within the community. She’s currently serving as a Board Member at the Tacoma Community House. She’s also an active member on the Pacific Northwest’s Conference Commission on Race and Religion. Rev. Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Divinity degree from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California. When not at church, Karen enjoys spending time with her husband, Jesse, getting her hands dirty with any sort of DIY project, reading, and attending a good yoga class.
